The New Face of Wellness is Digital and Self-Empowered

Nicole Martin: Through my experience in speaking at global conferences as of late, I had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Debbi Gisonni. I invited a Guest Blogger to share her Self Power Now series of workshops. Our Boosters are going to be experiencing this together as we kick off 2022 and perhaps your team would like to do the same.


 

Like everyone else during COVID, I did a lot of nothing. For me, doing nothing usually leads to a new creative project. Since I’ve been helping people to be happier and healthier for over twenty years now, I assumed another book idea would surface. But instead, something else emerged.

I realized that the way employees work, meet and digest info had changed forever, and stress was on the rise. One thing that hadn’t changed, however, was the continuum of employee wellness needs that spanned from simple life skills to psychiatric care. This disparity has always created a dilemma for employers. Given employees’ unique wellness needs combined with personal preferences for content, format and delivery methods, a “one size fits all” approach is not an option. Therefore, it behooves employers to continually offer new and varied wellness programs.

With that in mind, my days of doing nothing quickly came to an end, and I started developing a new online wellness series. Being that I’ve had parallel careers as a corporate leader and a wellness entrepreneur, I understand both worlds well. And, since self-empowerment has always been my overarching message, I named the series, SELF POWER NOW!. The “NOW!” being key because change is only possible in the present moment.

Given the shifts in business and wellness needs, I knew there were four characteristics any new wellness program needed for success.

 

  1. A Holistic Approach

A fitness challenge or a meditation app are certainly useful, but addressing one area of life is not enough. There are four important life realms – mental, physical, spiritual and emotional. When one of these areas are off, others will likely be off, but when they’re in sync, all areas of life and work are likely to improve.

The SELF POWER NOW! series consists of four, six-week courses that integrate and balance all four realms of life. Together, they help employees navigate the ups, downs and stress of everyday life and work by identifying and modifying thoughts, beliefs and behavior. The courses also intentionally address what people want most out of life – to be happy, healthy, peaceful and loved. Here are the courses:

  • BE HAPPY NOW! deals with the mental realm and reprogramming the mind, attitude and expectations for joy.
  • BE HEALTHY NOW! addresses being abundant in all areas of the physical realm – health, finances, career, relationships.
  • BE ZEN NOW! is about the spiritual realm, and connecting to your inner power to overcome challenges in life, and gain clarity and peace.
  • BE LOVED NOW! looks at the emotional realm and how loving yourself and others creates a more meaningful life and healthy relationships.

 

  1. Easy to Digest, Fun, and Personal Content

If there’s one thing I learned over the years from writing self-development books, it’s that simple is better. The total time to review each week’s SELF POWER NOW! course material takes only 15 – 20 minutes. That includes a short audio essay followed by supporting materials, which could be anything from articles to songs to poems. Home Play (not homework) exercises consist of 1-3 activities that reinforce the learning material.

At the end of each course is a guided audio meditation encoded with Theta binaural beats that promote relaxation and positive change. Did I mention I was certified in hypnotherapy and life coaching? All the audios are narrated by me with a storytelling approach. I share my own personal experiences so that I can relate to employees as people, not numbers.

 

  1. Digital and On-Demand Delivery

Digital solutions in all areas of life and work are increasing in popularity. Wellness is no exception. Given the increasing global and/or remote workforce, in-person learning with scheduled event times is not always possible or scalable. And, employees need access to information when and where they want it, on their own time.

The SELF POWER NOW! courses are all on-demand, digital, self-paced and private. Content modules open on a weekly drip system via an email notification. There’s a digital social component for those who prefer to share thoughts, but not required. All content is downloadable to personal devices. And here’s the kicker – no zoom calls or webinars! Don’t we already have enough of those on our calendars!

 

  1. Turn-key Administration

Companies purchasing an annual license to the SELF POWER NOW! series receive access to all four courses and a completely turn-key system with virtually no administration, time or scheduling needed. Other than an informational roll-out, which I help implement, there’s not much more employers need to manage. Simple access links put the program in motion. I do suggest that employers grant employees a “SELF POWER HOUR” – one hour of work time a week to access and practice the material on their own.
