A Booster Shot from HRBOOST® (December 2019)

Greetings from HRBOOST®!

It’s been three months since I attended the National Summit for Best and Brightest Companies to Work For® in Chicago. Yet, I find myself still positively affected by the speakers and the entire line up of content I absorbed. In these final days of 2019, I still have conversations with leaders that think a Best and Brightest employer may just have rich benefits and cool work environment. I have known for years it is far deeper than one expects.

Attending the Summit, it became clear and rather quickly that the content I was hearing included some daunting statistics, like 68% of the talent today feels isolated. And yet the overwhelming takeaway was warm and joyful tears of hope and inspiration from John O’Leary. Accountability on organizational health presented with humor wrapped in practical advice from Patrick Lencioni. And that, was all after a kickoff address the day prior from Gustavo Grodnitzky. He was a perfect opener as it was refreshing to learn about the Profit Paradox. Whereby, conscious capitalism outperforms classic capitalism organizations during times of recession. Truth be told, his favorite quote, “When you change the way you see, the world changes”. The more I pause to contemplate, the more I observe, the more I see, the more I learn.

Written by: By: Katie Cummins, HR Consultant

Countdown to January 1 means more than just a new year! It means NEW compliance OBLIGATIONS. Illinois employers will soon face new restrictions and requirements related to workplace discrimination and harassment in 2020.

The Workplace Transparency Act (WTA), intended to increase employee protections by fighting discrimination and harassment in the workplace, was approved by the Illinois legislature and takes effect in 2020. The new law prohibits unilateral agreements to arbitrate claims involving discrimination, harassment, and retaliation for reporting discrimination or harassment. It also significantly changes annual sexual harassment reporting and training requirements.
