Crowd Sourced Coaching

The 70-20-10 rule is a principal that suggests how individuals learn and develop:

  • 70% from on the job experiences and challenges
  • 20% from mentoring and coaching
  • 10% from coursework and formal training

Crowdsourced Coaching combines both the classroom environment with on-the-job learning. A small investment of an hour of classroom time per week during the training leads to an immediate application on-the-job. This approach maximizes learning and development. Management discussions during the training can further enhance outcomes.

Approach

There are four phases to a Crowdsourced Coaching® group.

noun_people_961246

Step One: Initial Relationship

In the Initial Relationship Phase, a 1-1 discussion with each participant addresses concerns, discusses development needs and helps with alignment to the group. A kick-off meeting helps participants build relationships, understand collective needs and concerns, and align on the process.

Step Two: On-Going Group Meetings

On-Going Group Meetings are every week for an hour for three months. In each session, with guidance from the facilitator, a leader presents a real workplace issue or challenge. The group learns how to mutually coach and support each other and generate a range of alternatives and actions to consider.

Step Three: On-the-Job Development

On-the-Job Development is an integral part of the process. Since the group discusses real work challenges and real solutions, leaders are expected to implement agreed-upon actions and report on progress. Follow-up discussion on results will help celebrate successes and further refine leadership actions for best outcomes. Participants will continue to note progress, completion of tasks, refinements, and new items in their development plans.

Step Four: Closure and Follow Up

Finally, in Closure and Follow Up, the leaders celebrate areas of progress. At the end of the program, participants can decide to continue meeting informally to maintain relationships and their support network or sign up for additional group coaching meetings.

What Our Clients Say

Senior Global Ops Manager

“My biggest takeaway is that the program affords me the ability to deepen my business acumen by hearing other issues that the network works through. The program has allowed me to network with other company locations around the globe. Just hearing about other individual’s issues and challenges has helped me learn more about the business as a whole. My business acumen is increasing because of my participation in the program. Additionally, from my own issue that we worked through, I learned about engaging and involving employees that might be viewed as roadblocks into the change management process. I’ve used this tactic and it’s helped considerably."

Senior Bank Manager

“A big learning has been that we are seeing similar issues across multiple sites- we are all dealing with change management and higher expectations. I thought the discussion this week highlighted some managerial ideas to use around project management and breaking the total overwhelming project into manageable pieces. It was obvious to me that those techniques would work for someone else. It forced me to think about some of my projects and apply the same principles there. The discussion around alignment has come up multiple times. I am much more conscious about achieving alignment both with my team and my manager.”

Procurement Manager

“One goal I had was for my managers to be more autonomous and empowered. The managers were very resistant at first to spend the time in the group due to already working over 50 hours per week. The group has actually saved time by less problems emerging and managers having a range of options to address problems that do show up. My managers didn’t want to end the group; we negotiated meeting less frequently for a period of additional time to continue to support their growth and development.”

Any Organization Can Benefit from a Crowdsourced Coaching® Group

An experienced facilitator helps the group tap into the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the leaders in attendance. The group adds context and cultural sensitivity. The facilitator provides value-added information. The discussion of best practices among leaders calibrates the group to be more in alignment and to work together as a catalyst for real change as challenges and issues emerge. Additionally, it is not so much the knowing but the consistency of executing that is the most challenging aspect of leadership.

The theory is not what drives change but rather a commitment to action and enhancing critical behaviors in real-time — based on experience, feedback, and outcomes in the moment. People learn best through relationships and discussions with trusted individuals. Accountability and follow-through rise when an individual commits to one or more people. Shared responsibility for learning and change increases feelings of ownership and outcomes. All of these outcomes and more occur through participation in the Crowdsourced Coaching® process
