A Booster Shot from HRBOOST® (August 2019): Transitioning to Fall

In the final weeks of summer, talent is sure to be hoping to maximize summer fun. I hope you got a glimpse of my reminder on 11 ways to avoid summer slump and non- traditional meetings are surely a hit right now. At HRBOOST® we plan to enjoy an afternoon on Lake Michigan. Everyone deserves some lake time, right? I even liked another company share where they took their top performers kayaking down the Chicago River in celebration. Consider the ways you can bring energy to the team before we transition to Fall. It’s back to school for the little ones and it seems we all have learning to stay abreast of too! One of very own Boosters, Bethanne McFadden is sharing the latest ban for employers in Illinois and it is news you can use. I am counting down to the National Summit for Best & Brightest™ as it is sure to be a valuable two days downtown. I hope you can attend; we have some good headliners you won’t want to miss September 15th – 17th. I recently posted a big question on my mind this month and that is... how do we as organizational leaders help employees feel safe? 85% of our employees come to work trying to do good. What will we do about the 15% variant? With all the unrest socially, how can we stop bullying in the workplace and empower employees? Last week I attended a Brave Way self-defense course, and this is the exact kind of thing employers should be bringing into their companies. Debi Lusk, an HR Business Partner at HRBOOST® is going to be talking about ways to address a toxic employee because in today’s tight market if you have one that you are not addressing, you are sure to lose quality talent. And, if you ask me, you cannot afford to have that happen (watch for it before the end of the month in our Knowledge Center).

As always, we are dedicated to delivering joy and purpose to people through their work. Let us know how we can do that for you!

Graciously,

Nicole

Illinois' New Salary History Inquiry Ban Law: What you Need to Know!

Written by: Bethanne McFadden, HRBOOST® Support Specialist

In an effort to dissuade employers from blatant, or even inadvertent, discriminatory actions Governor J.B. Pritzker signed a law (House Bill 834), which goes into effect September 29, 2019 prohibiting Illinois employers from asking job applicants, or their previous employers, about salary history. Additionally, the law protects an employee’s right to discuss wages and benefits with others. Any contract prohibiting that behavior is now deemed unlawful.
